Ziegenbalg, Bartholomaus, 1683-1719. Herrn Bartholomaus Ziegenbalgs, Konigl. Danischen Missionarii in Trangebar auf der Kuste Coromandel, Ausfuhrlicher Bericht. Halle, Waysenhauses, 1713.

Denmark established a trading station at Tranquebar in 1616. Almost one hundred years later two Germans, Ziegenbalg and Heinrich Plutschau, arrived in Tranquebar as missionaries sponsored by King Frederick IV. This set of volumes contains the reports of the mission, written by Ziegenbalg and others, that were sent back to Denmark. The reports contain a wealth of information on Danish activity in India and Indian life. Here displayed is a comparison of Indian and Danish soldiers.

Niekamp, Johann Lucas. Kurtzgefasste Missions-Geschichte. Halle, Waysen-Hauses, 1740-1772.

Niekamp's history of the Danish mission in Tranquebar includes a description of the country, its people and resources, the state of science, and religious and social customs. It is the only edition the library has that includes this fine, detailed map of the southeast coast of India.
